The city is much older than you think at first glance: Richard the Lionheart married Berengaria of Navarre and crowned her queen of England in 12th century. This happened inside the Limassol Castle, which surely is the main historic site in Limassol.

Limassol Castle
The castle is situated near the old harbour and it is build in typical 12th century structure. At a later date it is restored by the Venetians. Although the structure is not very impressive today, it is still of its own historical importance. And there is a quite interesting medieval museum inside, which is worth a visit.

Old Harbour
In the Old Harbour you will find pittoresque fishing boats and nice seafood restaurants, especially in the corner of Safi and Spyrou Araouzou Street. There is also a Reptile House with free entrance.

Folk Art Museum


This museum houses a large selection of authentic Cypriotic crafts. You will find the museum if you follow Agiou Andreou Street northwards.

City Park and Zoo
About a mile eastwards from the Old Harbour you reach the small but very green city park, which has a small zoo and an open air theatre. It is near the seacoast and not far from the Limassol Archeological Museum.

Zoo open 9am -1pm and 2.30pm -6.30pm. Entrance fee.

 

Limassol Archaeological Museum
T
he museum has on exhibit a large number of stone axes, knives and arrow heads, tools and various fragments recovered from Amathous and other sites. Coins and jewels of different periods are also on display.

Opening Hours: Mon - Fri from 7.30am till 5pm and Sun from 10am till 1pm.
